Anthony’s Story
“Where’s your fight to make it right?”
In September 2020, Anthony Holdsworth was diagnosed with inoperable Stage 4 colon cancer. The news came as a profound shock to Anthony and his family and everyone who knew him.
Anthony was energetic, hardworking and deeply committed to those around him. Anthony was a devoted husband, dad and friend who lived life with purpose and generosity.
Following his diagnosis, Anthony began chemotherapy in the hope of slowing the progression of the disease. However, further testing revealed that he carried the BRAF V600E mutation, found in a small percentage of metastatic colorectal cancer patients, which meant standard treatments were ineffective.
Anthony’s final option was to begin treatment with a “trial” medication. Anthony’s family was fortunate to be in a position to access this treatment, a privilege not available to many families facing similar circumstances.
Even while facing the greatest challenge of his life, Anthony worked tirelessly to ensure his family felt protected, supported and secure, placing their wellbeing above his own.
Although Anthony’s time was far shorter than anyone could have imagined, Anthony faced every day with optimism. He continued to go to work, support others and offer strength to those around him, even while battling his own illness.
After nine months of unwavering courage, Anthony passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was just 50 years old.
Throughout his life, Anthony believed in showing up for others and giving back to his community, not for recognition but because it was simply who he was.
During Anthony’s treatment, he often spoke about wanting to help other families facing similar circumstances. He shared his hope that once he was cancer free he would be able to support someone else in accessing life changing trial medication and to pay it forward and give another family the same chance he had been given.
Sadly, Anthony could not fulfil this dream himself.
In Anthony’s honour, Hammer & Heart is committed to carrying this vision forward. A dedicated section of the foundation will allow supporters to contribute directly towards helping families access vital trial treatments and specialised care.
This foundation exists so that families facing illness, hardship and uncertainty do not have to face additional financial and emotional burdens alone. Whether support is needed for treatment, travel, accommodation, living expenses or creating meaningful memories, Hammer & Heart aims to provide relief when it matters most.
Anthony’s legacy lives on through every act of kindness made possible by this community.
Anthony’s question — “Where’s your fight to make it right?” — continues to guide everything we do.
